Advertising tech company AppNexus , has raised $25 million in strategic funding from WPP. The deal is on top of AppNexus’s recent $85 million fundraise at a $1.2 billion valuation, and is part of the company’s acquisition of Xaxis For Publishers, the ad-serving technology of WPP business Xavis.

Germany-based Commercetools, an eCommerce software provider, was acquired by REWE Digital, which is a REWE Group company. Terms were not disclosed.

Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) has acquired photo-editing service provider Aviary. Aviary had raised around $17 million in VC funding from Bezos Expeditions, Spark Capital, Vision Ventures, and individual angels like Reid Hoffman. Terms were not disclosed.


Honeybook, which is a provider of software for wedding planners and related vendors, has raised $10 million in Series A funding led by Aleph VC with participation from Hillsven VC, Ooga Labs, and individual angels.

Online wine retailer Club W has raised $9.5 million in new VC funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners with participation from Crosscut Ventures.

Hitch, which provides an on-demand solution to share a private ride with passengers heading in the same direction, was acquired by Lyft, which provides an online on-demand ride share program. The acquisition of Hitch will boost Lyft’s ridesharing offering. Terms were not disclosed.


Just Eat (LSE: JE), a UK-based online food ordering company, has merged its Brazil operations with local rival iFood, which is owned by Movile. The joint venture will be called IF-JE Participações, but will operate under the iFood brand. Terms were not disclosed.

CurbStand, a developer of a mobile app that allows users to locate, pay, and tip for valet parking, has raised $3 million from a private investor. The company will use the new capital to expand its executive staff, launch operations into other U.S. markets, further develop its product, and raise national brand awareness.

Shippo, which provides a comparison site and database for express delivery providers, has raised $2 million in seed funding led by SoftTech VC with participation from Version One Ventures, 500 Startups, Slow Ventures, Funders Club, and other angel investors.

Otter Media, a venture between The Chernin Group and AT&T, has purchased a majority stake in Fullscreen, a global online media company. WPP, which had invested in Fullscreen in a round of Series A funding led by The Chernin Group in 2013, will continue as a strategic shareholder in the company. Terms were not disclosed.

Nexage, which provides mobile marketing solutions to publishers and developers, was acquired by Millennial Media (NYSE:MM), which provides mobile advertising solutions to advertisers and developers, for $107.5 million in cash and stock.

China-based Teein, which operates as a social media agency, was acquired by VML, which operates as a digital marketing and advertising agency. The acquisition further diversifies VML’s global presence. Terms were not disclosed.

One Three Media, which produces reality television shows such as Survivor and Celebrity Apprentice, has sold a 55 percent stake to MGM Studios, which produces and distributes motion pictures and television programming, from Hearst Entertainment. Terms were not disclosed.


Cross Platform Media has acquired IRN/USA Radio Network (Information Radio Network). Terms were not disclosed.

Hazelcast, which is an open source in-memory data grid startup, has raised $11 million in Series B funding from Earlybird Venture Capital and Bain Capital Ventures.

video communications

TalkPoint Holdings (dba TalkPoint Communications), which provides software-as-a-service technology and services for interactive webcasting and virtual meetings, was acquired by PGI (NYSE:PGI), a provider of collaboration software.  Terms were not disclosed.



India-based Bookpad, which develops online file editing solutions and collaboration software, was acquired by Yahoo (Nasdaq:YHOO). Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.


Hazelcast, which develops open-source data-distribution software, has raised an $11 million in Series B funding led by Earlybird Venture Capital with participation from individual angel investors. The company plans on using the new capital to continue expanding operations.


Safe Fleet Holdings, which is a portfolio company of The Sterling Group, has acquired Canada-based Seon Design, which is a developer of video surveillance and fleet management solutions for school and transit buses. No financial terms were disclosed.


iHealth Lab, a company that designs and manufactures mobile personal healthcare products connected through the cloud,  has raised $25 million in funding led by Xiaomi Ventures. The company plans on using the new capital to continue expanding its global reach, accelerate growth, and invest in additional sales and marketing resources.


Hub International, which is a global insurance brokerage, has acquired Algentis, an integrated HR software and services platform that seamlessly integrates payroll, benefits, insurance and HR compliance for businesses. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.


Sage Group (LSE: SGE) has acquired PAI Group ( PayChoice), a provider of payroll and HR software for small and mid-sized businesses, for $157.8 million. Sellers include Great Hill Partners and Baird Venture Partners.


Duo Security, which is a provider of cloud-based two-factor authentication solutions, has raised $12 million in Series B funding led by Benchmark with participation from Google Ventures, True Ventures, and Radar Partners.  The company intends on using the new capital to scale sales, marketing, and product development efforts.

EdCast, which is a provider of cloud-based development software for educational institutions, has raised $6 million in funding led by Softbank Capital with participation from Menlo Ventures, Novel TMT Ventures, Mitch Kapor, Cervin Ventures, Aarin Capital, NewSchools Venture Fund, and the Stanford StartX Fund. The company intends on using the new capital to expand operations.

Tydan IT, a managed IT services specialist for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), was acquired by Aldridge, a provider of information technology outsourcing. Terms were not disclosed.
