RetailNext, a provider of applied big data solutions for brick-and-mortar retail, has raised $30 million in funding led by Nokia Growth Partners, with participation from Qualcomm Ventures, Tyco, American Express, Activant Capital Group, August Capital, StarVest Partners, and Commerce Ventures. The company, which has now raised $59 million in funding to date, plans on using the new capital for global expansion of its operations, as well as investment research and development.

Content management platform Soletron was acquired by Karmaloop, which is online retailer of street wear. Terms were not disclosed.

WordStream, which offers search engine marketing software, has raised $12 million in funding led by Baird Capital and Sigma Partners, as well as an additional $3 million in venture debt provided by City National Bank. The company, which has now raised $25 million in total funding, will use the new capital to further invest in its search marketing software.


Blackboard has acquired Perceptis, which provides a help desk and student support services. Through the acquisition, Blackboard extends its capabilities to provide integrated services. Terms were not disclosed.

Curse, which is a provider of gaming services, has raised $16 million in Series B funding led by GGV Capital. The company also secured $6 million in venture debt from Multiplier Capital.

Sweden-based FishBrain, a developer of a mobile app and social network for sport fishing enthusiasts, has raised $2.4 million in funding led by Northzone and Active Venture Partners, with participation from GP Bullhound, Edastra Venture Capital, ALMI, and individual investors. The new round of funding will be used to accelerate product development and to further develop the company’s mobile application.

Israel-based Get You, which operates a social feedback platform that enables users to discover how strangers and friends perceive them at first glance, has raised $1.1 million in funding led by RD Seed and angel investors.

UK-based Rightster, which is a video distribution and monetization startup largely backed by angel investors, has acquired Viral Spiral, which specializes in social video management, licensing, and brand engagement. The company has also acquired Base79, one of the largest YouTube partners outside North America. The company purchased Base79 for $85.6 million and Viral Spiral for $6.8 million.

India-based Pokkt, which provides a mobile monetization platform, has raised $2.5 million in Series A funding led by Jafco Asia, SingTel Innov8, Jungle Ventures, and individual investors. The company plans on using the new money to expand into Southeast Asia.

SocialKaty, which is a social-media marketing agency, was acquired by digital agency Manifest Digital. The SocialKaty team will be integrated into Manifest Digital’s UX design, content marketing, and social media team. Terms were not disclosed.

Cloudian¸ which provides hybrid cloud storage solutions, has raised $24 million in funding led by INCJ, Fidelity Growth Partners, and Intel Capital. The company intends on using the new capital to extend its global sales and marketing reach through targeted programs and market development.

TwinStrata, which provides cloud-based data storage and data protection solutions, was acquired by EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), which develops, delivers, and supports information infrastructure and virtual infrastructure technologies. The acquisition will bolster EMC’s cloud strategy. Terms were not disclosed.

Israel-based Applitools, which offers a cloud-based platform for visual testing of web and mobile applications, has raised $2.5 million in Series A funding led by Magma Venture Partners. The company plans on using the new capital to strengthen its marketing efforts and enhance its platform.


Accellos and Highjump Software have merged into a single provider of supply chain management software and trading partner network technology. The merged entity will operate under the name HighJump.  Accelos is a portfolio company of Accel-KKR, while HighJump is backed by Battery Ventures. Terms were not disclosed.


Asure Software (Nasdaq:ASUR), which provides workplace management software solutions, has acquired FotoPunch, which is a cloud-based time and labor management (TLM) provider. Terms were not disclosed.


Hiperos, which provides supplier performance management and lifecycle management solutions, was acquired by private equity firm Opus Global and GTCR.

Netherlands-based Mint Solutions, which develops a platform for medication identification technology, has raised $6 million in Series A funding led by Life Sciences Partners and Seventure Partners. The new capital will be used to further grow sales of MedEye.

Healthcare technology platform company Validic has acquired Infometers, which expands the company’s digital health ecosystem by 44 percent. Terms were not disclosed.

Silkroad, a provider of end-to-end talent management solutions, has received an undisclosed amount of funding from Foundation Capital. The company plans on using the new capital to bring its cloud-based products to market.

security software

Marlin Equity Partners has acquired the arcserve data protection business of CA Technologies (Nasdaq:CA). All arcserve business activity will now be recognized by the company as discontinued operations. Terms were not disclosed.

Spark Labs, which provides a software development platform for connected devices, has raised $4.9 million in Series A funding led by Lion Wells Capital, O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, SOSVentures, and Collaborative Fund.

Current Analysis, a provider of market intelligence and information for telecommunications, information technology (IT), and consumer electronics industries, was acquired for $19.6 million by business information company Progressive Digital Media Group (AIM:PRO).


Accountable Healthcare Staffing, which provides healthcare staffing solutions, has acquired MedAscend, which also provides staffing solutions for healthcare providers throughout the United States. Terms were not disclosed
