Silverpop Systems, a provider of email marketing software and services, was acquired by information technology products and services company International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), for reportedly $270 million. Silverpop extends IBM’s client base to power the marketing capabilities of 8,000 organizations in more than 50 countries around the world.

Singapore-based mobile taxi booking application GrabTaxi, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding led by Vertex Venture, with participation from Malaysian angel investors.


Online marketplace for gourmet meal delivery Munchery, has raised $28 million in Series B funding led by Sherpa Ventures, with participation from Menlo Ventures and angel investors. The company has raised $35.9 million in funding to date, and will use the new capital to expand its offices nationally.


UK-based online and mail-order gift company The Handpicked Collection, was acquired by media and information services company News UK, which is a subsidiary of News Corporation (Nasdaq:NWSA).  Terms were not disclosed.

Mobile developer of music applications and games Smule, has raised $16.6 million in funding led by Roth Capital Partners, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Granite Ventures, and Shasta Ventures. The company has raised $42 million in funding to date, and plans to use the new capital for international expansion.

Longreads, a curator of longform stories from around the Web, was acquired by blogging services provider Automattic, which is the company behind WordPress. Longreads will continue to operate as a stand-alone company.  Terms were not disclosed.

Daily digital news publisher Press4kids, has raised $1 million in seed funding led by private investors and entrepreneurs directly involved with the education market. The company will use the new capital to scale its products across the U.S. and develop additional tools for teaching and assessment.

France-based social network for researchers MyScienceWork, has raised $1.1 million in funding led by private investors. The new capital raised will enable the company to expand into new markets, and brings their total funding raised to $2.6 million.

Israel-based Slidely, which allows users to create photo-video slideshows, galleries, and other shareable creations, has raised $7.3 million in funding led by Benson Oak Capital. The new capital will be used to develop new partnerships and open offices internationally.

Content management and Web experience management software solutions Ektron, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding led by Accel-KKR. The company plans on using the newly raised funds to accelerate product development and expand operations.


Singapore-based Zopim Technologies, a provider of live chat software, was acquired by Zendesk, a company offering an on-demand helpdesk. Zendesk has raised more than $90 million in VC funding from Benchmark, Charles River Ventures, Matrix Partners, Redpoint Ventures, GGV Capital, Index Ventures, and Goldman Sachs. Terms were not disclosed.

RapidEngines, an operator of an online platform for highly scalable log analytics, was acquired by performance monitoring solutions provider SevOne. The acquisition is the first from SevOne since closing the $150 million investment from Bain Capital. Terms were not disclosed.

cloud storage

Cloud storage services provider Space Monkey, which enables users to store, share, and access digital content through the cloud, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding led by Alta Venture Mexico. To date, the company has raised $2.3 million in funding.

Digital Rapids, a developer of software-defined workflow management technologies, was acquired by Imagine Communications, a provider of digital video solutions for content providers and system operators in the digital broadcast market. Terms were not disclosed.

AppDirect, which provides a software platform that powers app marketplaces for companies including Deutsche Telekom, Telekom, Bell Canada, and Rackspace U.S, has raised $35 million in Series C funding led by Mithril Capital Management and iNovia Capital. The new capital will be used to expand internationally and execute acquisitions.


Fundbox, a provider of a data-driven risk engine that assesses the customer’s network and invoices, has raised $17.5 million in Series A funding led by Khosla Ventures, SV Angels, and individual investors. The company intends on using the funds to scale its data operations and product, as well as increase marketing efforts.

Performance management software solutions developer Decisyon, has raised $22 million in Series B funding led by Catalyst Investors. The new capital raised will be used to further expand internationally, as well as hire additional sales, marketing, and delivery staff members, and brings the company’s total funding to $37 million.

India-based Aditi Technologies, a provider of technology consulting in the areas of enterprise social, big data, mobile, and digital marketing, was acquired by Symphony Teleca, which develops, deploys, and manages software products. The combined team will have 7,500 employees across 40 global offices in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Terms were not disclosed.

Poised Solutions, which provides business consulting and technology development and integration, was acquired by digital marketing agency SilverTech. The acquisition enables SilverTech to offer depth of marketing and technology integration services to clients in healthcare, financial services, retail, and professional services. Terms were not disclosed.


Staffing and recruiting firm Integral Resources, which serves top-tier legal and financial services company, was acquired by Noor, a holding company within the staffing industry. Terms were not disclosed.
