Foursquare, a social, location-based check-in application that also serves as a local search platform, has raised $15 million in funding by Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT). The investment will be added to the $35 million investment round Foursquare announced last December, which valued the company at about $650 million.

TeamSnap, which creates a mobile and Web service for managing groups, has raised $7.5 million in Series B funding led by Foundry Group, with participation from Torstar, Trinity Ventures, Toba Capital, and individual investors. The new capital raised brings the company’s funding to a total of $12.6 million.

Char Software (dba Localytics), a company offering an application marketing platform, as well as an enterprise application analytics platform, received $16 million in Series C funding led by Foundation Capital, with participation from Polaris Partners. The company intends to use the funding to grow its international presence, and expand its team and library of content. The investment brings the company’s total capital raised to $24.8 million.

India-based Wit Innovation Technologies, which provides mobile application development services, was acquired by Saxon Global (fka ITCell), a provider of information technology consulting and outsourcing services. Terms were not disclosed.

AtTask, a provider of enterprise work management software as a service, has raised $38 million in Series D funding led by JMI Equity, with participation from GreenSpring Associates, Escalate Capital, and University Venture Fund. The new capital raised brings the company’s funding to a total of $75 million.

Spiceworks, which offers free, ad-supported help desk software and an accompanying social community to IT professionals and technology vendors, has raised $57.6 million in Series E funding led by Goldman Sachs, with participation from Adams Street Partners, Austin Ventures, Institutional Venture Partners, and Shasta Ventures. The investment brings the company’s total funding to a total of $111 million. The new capital will be used to introduce a new technology platform, as well as develop new applications and content.

Elementum, a company providing supply chain management information solutions for the mobile workforce, has raised $44 million in Series B funding led by LightSpeed Venture Partners and Flextronics (Nasdaq:FLEX). The company intends on using the new capital to emerge from stealth mode. The investment brings the company’s funding to a total of $60 million.

DataDog, a developer of corporate information technology monitoring software, received $15 million in Series B funding from OpenView Venture Partners, Index Ventures, and RTP Ventures. The new capital raised will be used to develop its monitoring service for cloud infrastructure, and to hire engineering, sales, and marketing departments. The company has raised a total of $21.2 million in funding to date.

Online legal research platform Ravel Law, has raised $8.1 million in Series A funding led by New Enterprise Associates and North Bridge Venture Partners, with participation from Experiment Fund and Work-Bench. The company has raised $9.2 million in funding to date.

NextiraOne, a company that installs, maintains, and supports business solutions and communications services for private and Public Sector customers throughout Europe, was acquired by Dimension Data Holdings, which engages in the provision and management of information technology infrastructure services and solutions. The acquisition will take the combined portfolio companies to SMB, commercial, public sector, and enterprise markets. Terms were not disclosed.

NewsCrafted, a provider of newsletter production solutions for schools, has raised $1.1 million in Series B funding led by Broadmark Capital. The company has raised $2.3 million in funding to date.
