The acquisition will allow BroadbandChoices to expand into the mobile phone market. Terms were not disclosed.

StyleSeat, which provides an online marketplace for beauty and wellness services, has raised $10.2 in Series A funding led by Lightspeed Ventures and Lowercase Capital. The new capital will be used to expand StyleSeat’s services, and brings their total funding to $14 million.

Drizly, an alcohol delivery mobile application for on-demand beer, wine, and liquor serving consumers in the Boston and New York areas, has raised $2.3 million in funding led by Atlas Ventures, Abundance Partners, Breakaway Ventures, Continental Advisors, Fairhaven Capital, and Reynolds & Company Venture Partners. The company will use the new capital to offer its services across the country.

ConnectAround, a social network for senior adults that enables users to post, message, and interact with one another, was acquired by Tapestry, an online and mobile social network for family members. Terms were not disclosed.

Zuzeen, a Spain-based provider of an online destination and social network to enable musicians to broadcast live content, was acquired by Rushmore.fm, an operator of an online music community enabling artists to connect and interact with consumers. Terms were not disclosed.

Mailrox, a provider of HTML email creation SaaS for marketers, designers, digital media agencies, and developers, was acquired by Movable Ink, which offers personalized email marketing to businesses. Terms were not disclosed.

Push IO, a mobile push notification software that enables businesses and marketers to push their messages to subscribers, was acquired by Responsys, a provider of on-demand email and marketing automation software. The acquisition will allow Responsys to offer a complete mobile and web push solution within a general marketing orchestration platform. Terms were not disclosed.

Mobile marketing company Sparq, was acquired by Yahoo! (Nasdaq:YHOO). The acquisition will enable Yahoo to become more familiar with the mobile space and monetize its mobile user base. Previous to the acquisition Sparq had raised $1.7 million over several small rounds.

BuyerZone, an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of SMB products and services, was acquired by TechMediaNetwork, which operates as a digital publisher and content provider of consumer technology and science news. Terms were not disclosed.

Binary Fountain, which provides a SaaS-based social intelligence company, received 5.7 million in funding led by Pioneer Venture Partners. This is the first round of funding for the company and will be used to further accelerate the company’s growth, customer acquisition, and technology development.

Business intelligence startup Chartio, has raised $2.2 million in funding led by Avalon Ventures. The investment will be used to expand the company’s sales and marketing, and brings their total funding to $6.6 million.


Clicksquared, which provides a SaaS cross-channel campaign management platform for B2C marketers, was acquired by digital marketing agency Zeta Interactive (fka XL Marketing), which offers email marketing, digital publishing, and search engine marketing and optimization. (note, a Petsky Prunier-led transaction).


Intercom, a developer of customer relationship management and messaging tools for Web application owners, has raised $23 million in Series B funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from The Social + Capital Partnerships. The investment brings the company’s total funding to a total of $30 million. The new capital will be used to develop its product, particularly in mobile, and expand its marketing.

France-based startup Tok Tok Tok, which provides a local delivery platform, has raised $2 million in funding led by private investors. The company plans on using the new capital to expand to other European cities.

Social data startup 4C, which provides an ad and measurement platform, has raised $5 million in Series B funding from Jump Capital. The company was formed last year from the merger of Voxsup and The Echo System, incorporating the former business’s social information, marketing, and eCommerce.

uberVu, a company providing a community metrics and analytics platform that enables businesses and agencies to engage and analyze the audiences across the social Web, was acquired by HootSuite Media, which offers online social network and  media monitoring and management. MemSQL, a developer of a scalable in-memory database that allows applications to read and write at the same time and run analytics in real-time, has raised $35 million in Series B funding led by Accel Partners, with participation from Khosla Ventures, First Round Capital, and Data Collective. The investment brings the company’s funding to a total of $40 million.

UK-based global marketing agency Profero, was acquired by Lowe and Partners, a division of Interpublic Group. The agency will be called Lowe Profero and will be integrated into the Lowe and Partners network, serving as its global digital offering. Terms were not disclosed.

Discovery Communications (Nasdaq:DISC) has agreed to acquire an additional 31 percent stake in Eurosport International, a France-based operator of sports television channels and an online network that provides access to sports content from TF1 Group (ENXTPA:TFI), at a reported valuation of $1.2 billion.

Kensho, a cloud-based intelligent computer systems capable of answering complex financial and market research questions, has raised $10 million in funding led by General Catalyst, NEA, Accel Partners, Google Ventures, and Devonshire Investors.

AirWatch, an enterprise mobile management and security services company, was acquired by VMware (NYSE:VMW), a provider of virtualization infrastructure solutions for a reported $1.5 billion in cash and assumed equity options. The acquisition will enable VMware to offer customers mobile workforce solutions without compromising security.

Nexmo, which operates a cloud SMS API that enables businesses to send and receive high volume messages at wholesale rate, has raised $18 million in Series C funding led by Sorenson Capital, with participation from Intel Capital. The company will use the new capital for marketing efforts and to expand its sales team. The investment brings the company’s total funding to a total of $22.8 million.

BookingBug, a UK-based multi-channel online booking and reservation platform for businesses, has raised $1 million in funding led by Deep Ventures. The company’s solution enables users to find new clients, manage existing clients, and take bookings.

Medigistics, a company offering medical billing and practice management, was acquired by healthcare software provider Etransmedia Technology. The acquisition expands Etransmedia’s reach as a provider of healthcare IT and Revenue Cycle Management solutions. Terms were not disclosed.

Zenefits, a company that manages benefits, payrolls, and HR, has raised $15 million in funding led by Andreessen Horowitz, Maverick, and Venrock. The company has raised a total of $17 million in funding to date.

Patrafee, offers services and software solutions for the management of IP Rights to law firms and IP Rights holders, was acquired by CPA Global, a provider of business process outsourcing services. The acquisition strengthens CPA Global’s presence in the small and medium size enterprises patent renewals market. Terms were not disclosed.

Docker (fka Dotcloud), a developer of application platform-as-a-service technologies for developers, has raised $15 million in Series B funding led by Greylock Partners, with participation from Insight Venture Partners, and Trinity Ventures. The new capital will be used to develop commercial services that pair with the open-source technology and continue building their team.

Eastmedia, a provider of outsourced Web and mobile application development services, was acquired by Movable Ink, a provider of personalized email marketing SaaS. Terms were not disclosed.

StormWind, an IT online training and eLearning company, has raised $5 million in Series C funding led by GSV Capital. The company intends to use the funds to hire and expand their sales, instructors, and a creative team. The investment brings the company’s total funding to $9 million.

MDlive, a network of physicians and licensed therapists proving online and on-demnad healtchcare delivery services and software, has raised $23.6 million in funding from Heritage Group, Sutter Health, Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors, and Sentara Healthcare. The new capital will be used to build out the company’s healthcare system in the cloud.

Jem Software, a provider of outsourced custom database creation and website template design services for businesses, was acquired by BrightBox Solutions, which offers a Web-based IT help desk. Terms were not disclosed.
