Japan-based Gamepot, a publisher with PC, browser, and mobile game titles in its portfolio, has been acquired by Japan-based internet services company GMO Internet (TSE:9449). The company was purchased from Aeria Games & Entertainment for an $9.3 million.

Video analytics company Prism Skylabs has raised $15 million in Series B funding led by Intel Capital, with participation from Presidio Ventures, Triangle Peak, Data Collective, and Expa. The company’s solution works by utilizing footage from existing security cameras to provide retailers and other businesses with various analyses of foot traffic.


Israel-based Appsee, a mobile analytics software company, has raised $1 million in funding Giza Venture Capital and angel investors. The company’s platform automates the process of identifying and tracking various metrics, then aggregating the results in a report.

Content recommendation solutions company Outbrain, which provides widgets at the bottom of articles recommending additional stories, has raised $35 million in funding led by HarbourVest Partners, with participation from new investor Vintage Partners and existing investors Carmel Ventures, Index Ventures, Gemini Israel Funds, GlenRock Israel, Rhodium, and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Outbrain has now raised a total of $99 million.

France-based video adTech startup Teads, which sells technology allowing publishers to embed video ads within articles that automatically play when they become visible on the user’s screen, has closed a $5.2 million Series A round, with backing from Partech Ventures (also an investor in Dailymotion) and Elaia Partners.

Six Two Interactive and UK-based Elder Digital Marketing, two interactive agencies, have been acquired by Square 2 Marketing, an inbound marketing agency specializing in the professional services, healthcare, technology, business services, manufacturing, distribution, and financial services industries. Terms were not disclosed.

Digital firm Terralever and advertising and public relations agency E.B. Lane announced the two organizations have merged, creating a new marketing company, LaneTerralever. Terms were not disclosed.


UK-based Shutl which offers same-day and same-hour delivery services, has been acquired by eBay (NasdaqGS:EBAY). Terms were not disclosed. Following the acquisition, Shutl will continue to serve its retail partners in the UK and the U.S. The company had previously received nearly $9 million in funding from backers that included Hummingbird Ventures, Notion Capital, and e.Ventures.

Coco Paris Media, an independent film producer, has been acquired by media holding company UA Multimedia (OTCPK:UAMM). Terms were not disclosed. Coco Paris Media specializes in making films in Asia for worldwide releases.

Cannondale Pro Cycling & Brixia Sports has sold a majority equity stake for an undisclosed amount to Cannondale, a brand of Dorel Industries. The acquisition will help Cannondale continue to develop young and international athletes.

Providence Equity Partners has agreed to purchase a majority stake in The Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG). As part of the transaction, Exponent Private Equity will retain a minority stake in ATG. The UK company stages musicals such as “The Lion King” and “Wicked” in the UK and on Broadway in New York. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Quadrant Private Equity has agreed to acquire the remaining 48 percent stake in APN Outdoor that it doesn’t already own from APN News & Media (ASX:APN), for AUD 69 million ($66.9 million) in cash. The transaction values APN Outdoor at $139.4 million, or 7.5x 2013 EBITDA.

Openera, a developer of mobile productivity applications, was acquired by systems software company LiveQoS, which provides quality of service solutions for OEMs to optimize their overall network quality. Openera’s products include FileFinder, which finds and shares files from anywhere; AutoFile, which automatically saves, organizes, and backups files and attachments; and FileAnalytics, which monitors, measures, and manages files and cloud storage usage. Terms were not disclosed.

Japan-based Talknote, the startup behind the corporate communication platform of the same name, announced today it has raised 200 million yen (approximately $2 million) from Japanese investment company Lead Capital Management. Prior to this funding, it had raised an undisclosed sum of investment from CyberAgent Ventures.

InteliSpend Prepaid Solutions, which offers business-to-business reward solutions for corporate incentive and consumer promotions program, has been acquired for an undisclosed amount by Blackhawk Network, a company offering a prepaid payment network which supports the distribution of gift cards, prepaid telecom products, and financial service products. The company was purchased from sales and marketing services firm Maritz for an undisclosed amount.

FlexyCore, a developer of software solutions for smartphones, has been acquired for $23 million by Google (NasdaqGS:GOOG). FlexyCore’s main product, DroidBooster, is designed to enhance the performance of Android devices, in terms of speed and battery life. The company also provides Ispectrum, a Java SDK for iPhone.

SkySQL, which has designed an open-source relational database, has raised $20 million in funding led by Intel Capital, with participation from California Technology Ventures, Finnish Industry Investment, Open Ocean Capital, and Spintop Private Partners.


Teambox, a provider of cloud-based collaboration and business communications solutions, has raised $5 million in Series A funding led by Avalon Ventures, with participation from Data Collective.


Blue Rooster, an enterprise software solutions that offering social networking and document sharing solutions, has raised $3 million in funding from PFU Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu.


Canada-based OneClass, a provider of a collaborative textbook and notes platform for university students, has raised $1.6 million in Series A funding led by SAIF Partners, with participation from seed backer Real Ventures.

Zen Planner, a provider of cloud-based business and customer management software for the health and fitness industry, has raised $10 million in growth equity funding from Mainsail Partners. The company’s software lets users integrate their Zen Planner database with merchant account providers in the industry, which allows them to process credit cards and EFT, and deposit funds directly into their merchant account.


Aplifi, a company offering life and annuity order management, client management, and electronic document delivery solutions for the financial services and insurance market segment, has been acquired by Internet Pipeline, which also provides a suite of software solutions to the insurance and financial services markets through its on-demand service. Aplifi was purchased from Bluff Point Associates, Ash Brokerage, LPL Financial Corporation, and other shareholders for an undisclosed amount.


ApeniMED, a healthcare IT company providing health data platforms that enable information exchange, was acquired for an undisclosed amount by IOD Incorporated, which offers health information management services and solutions to hospitals, health systems, integrated delivery networks, and clinics.


IncentOne, a provider of healthcare incentive design and management solutions, has been acquired by WellTok, a social health management company. The combined entity creates a health optimization platform for entities that manage population health by matching consumers to activities designed to improve their health. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.


CFS Clinical, a specialty provider focused on the business and financial management activities for clinical trials, has been acquired by DrugDev, an interactive network and data sharing platform for over 80,000 clinical trial doctors in 93 countries. Terms were not disclosed.

Virtual Physician’s Network, a medical software and applications provider, has been acquired by DMH International. The company’s software allows physicians, associations, product providers, and training and certification resources to communicate and engage through a secure social media platform. Terms were not disclosed.


TribeHR, which provides a social human resources platform for small and medium businesses, was acquired by NetSuite (NYSE:N), a leading developer of cloud-based financials/enterprise resource planning software suites. The combined companies create a cloud ERP and human capital management software suite for small and medium sized business.

General Things, a digital design and software studio, was acquired by camera manufacturer GoPro. General Things has been a strategic partner of GoPro since 2010, and has been instrumental in helping the company advance its business backend and consumer facing web development. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.


Staffing company Employment Plus has sold certain branch operations to EmployBridge, a provider of outsourced human resource and specialty-branded temporary staffing services. Terms were not disclosed. The combined entity will consist of over 235 branch and on-site locations.
