Mood-based music streaming service Songza has raised a $4.7 million funding round, their second since they closed $2 million in 2011. Songza did not name a lead for the round, the investors for which include Amazon (NasdaqGS:AMZN), William Morris Endeavor, Lerer Ventures, Deep Fork Capital, Metamorphic Ventures, and number of individual investors.

Paydiant, a white-label mobile payment and offer redemption platform, has raised $15 million in Series C funding from North Bridge Venture Partners, General Catalyst Partners, and Stage 1 Ventures. This brings the company’s total investments to $35 million. The company plans to use the money for product development, sales, and marketing for its technology, which includes capabilities for card-less ATM access and an offer redemption/loyalty service.

Numbrs, the mobile-first banking app founded out of Switzerland-based Centralway, has raised a further $3.8 million from its parent. The funds will be used for a planned U.S. launch early next year. The new investment adds to the original $7.7 million put into Numbrs by Centralway.

OnTrade, a lead generation and deal marketplace for the B-to-B sector of the travel and trade show industry, has been acquired by Conference Hound, which operates a conference discovery platform. Terms were not disclosed. The combined company will provide Conference Hound members access to exclusive deals from conferences, trade shows, exhibitors, and hospitality providers.

HookLogic, a provider of commerce search advertising solutions, has raised $14.3 million in Series B funding. Intel Capital led the round, and was joined by return backer Bain Capital Ventures. HookLogic’s services include ad placement on search result pages through the use of its own ad exchange.

Versium Analytics, which develops business software to predict and score consumer behavior, has raised $2.5 million from investors including TiE Angels Group Seattle. The company’s software helps enterprises make predictions about consumers’ social influence, fraud, and customer churn.

KXEN, a provider of predictive analytics technology for line-of-business users and analysts, is being acquired by SAP (DB:SAP). KXEN’s software uses statistical models to search for correlations and patterns that might offer clues about customer behavior, market trends, and other areas. The acquisition is expected to close by the end of the year. Terms were not disclosed.

SourceAudio Holdings, which develops a music search and distribution service for people who wish to sell or buy licensed music, confirmed it has raised a seed funding round of $1.2 million led by Emerson Investment Management. The company’s software enables musicians and music publishers to offer their music to be licensed by others. Service plans range from $29 a month and up, depending on how many tracks the seller hosts on the service.

Clarabridge, which provides customer experience analytics software that enable customers to integrate and analyze customer feedback, has raised $80 million in funding from Summit Partners, General Catalyst Partners, and Yuchun Lee, a former executive with IBM (NYSE:IBM).

Marketing software company TapInfluence has closed a $5 million round of Series B funding led by existing investor Grotech Ventures and new investor Access Venture Partners. TapInfluence is licensed by marketers to automate the process of finding relevant digital influencers and collaborating with them to create brand-sponsored content.

American Express Travel Related Services has sold its lifestyle magazines publishing business, American Express Publishing, to Time Inc. The sale is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2013. American Express Publishing, with brands including Travel + Leisure and Food & Wine, will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Time Inc. Terms were not disclosed.

Israel-based cloud computing analytics developer Newvem, which offers Web-based software to help customers monitor cloud resources, such as cost and usage analytics for Amazon Web Services, has been acquired by enterprise IT service provider Datapipe. Terms were not disclosed. Newvem had raised $4 million in Series A funding led by Greylock Partners, joined by Index Ventures, Innovation Endeavors, and individual investors.

Whiptail Technologies, a provider of solid state memory systems, has been acquired by Cisco Systems (NasdaqGS:CSCO), for $415 million. Cisco plans to use Whiptail’s systems to strengthen its Unified Computing System (UCS) strategy and enhance application performance. Whiptail had previously received a total of $41 million in funding from Ignition Partners, RRE Ventures, and Spring Mountain Capital, as well as SanDisk Ventures.

eASIC, a fabless semiconductor company offering single mask adaptable ASIC devices that aimed at reducing the cost of making custom chips and producing them faster, has raised $23.5 million in growth funding from Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and Seagate Technology, with participation from Crescendo Ventures and Evergreen Partners. The company has now raised more than $120 million.

Benu Networks, which offers a software platform for mobile operators, has raised $26.6 million in Series B funding led by Sutter Hill Ventures, with participation from return backers Spark Capital and Comcast Ventures.

virtualization technology

Voxel, a provider of app virtualization and streaming technology, has raised a $1.6 million seed round from investors including First Round Capital, Pinnacle Ventures, and Sherpalo Ventures. The company’s cloud service works by streaming app to a user’s mobile device rather than requiring them to be downloaded.

Standing Cloud, a provider of cloud application marketplace and management solutions, has been acquired by competitor AppDirect, which offers online marketplaces for cloud-based business apps. AppDirect also announced that it has received $9 million in a Series B round of funding led by existing investor iNovia Capital. Prior to the purchase Standing Cloud had raised $10 million at a valuation of less than $20 million.


Outline, a startup that has developed an online public-policy simulator, has raised a $0.85 million seed round from Dorm Room Fund, Knight Foundation Enterprise Fund, and Esther Dyson. Outline’s budget simulation software, which it licenses to governments, enables an organization to perform “what if” analyses, such as changing tax rates or health-care spending, and to see the projected effects.


Space‐Time Insight, a provider of situational intelligence solutions, has raised $18 million in Series C funding, according to a regulatory filing. Prior backers include EnerTech Capital, Novus Energy Partners, ClearSky Power & Technology Fund, Opus Capital Ventures, and Start Up Farms International.


NextDocs, a developer of content management and compliance software for life-sciences companies, has raised a $13.5 million round led by OpenView Venture Partners. The round, which is NextDocs’ second, included participation from Eastward Capital and Bridgebank Capital, and brings the company’s total investments to $23.8 million.

Sweden-based Sydetikett, digital label printing company, has been acquired for SEK 40 million ($6.1 million) by Norway-based PSI Group (OB:PSI). The acquisition complements PSI Group’s existing commercial printing facilities.
